Craft
Every Coutille piece begins with the same considerations: fabric, line, proportion, and make. Materials are chosen for their beauty, character, and the way they settle into wear over time, while construction is approached with the same attention to permanence. From the first stage of development, the focus remains on creating clothing that feels exacting in its finish and lasting in its value.
Craftsmanship is approached as something inseparable from design. It gives structure to the silhouette, precision to the line, and permanence to the finished garment. More than a question of technique, it is what allows a piece to feel refined in its making and enduring in its presence.
Partnerships with established mills and fabric houses are fundamental to the house. Many have been producing for decades, in some cases centuries, carrying a level of knowledge and skill that is increasingly rare. That heritage becomes part of every Coutille piece, inherited through the material and through the precision, character, and permanence it brings to the finished garment.
These relationships are built over time and remain integral to how the house works. Working closely with suppliers allows fabrics to be developed and selected with greater intention, from the quality of the yarn to the weight, finish, and handle of the cloth. The result is a material language that is distinctive to the house and consistent with the standards it seeks to uphold.
Production is based in Porto and London, with Rome soon to follow, allowing Coutille to work closely with specialist makers and keep manufacturing as near to source as possible.
The factories and ateliers the house works with are chosen for their specialist knowledge and the standard of their finish. Their experience shapes the way a garment falls, holds, and endures, bringing technical precision to every stage of making. These relationships remain essential to the consistency, quality, and character of each piece, giving the finished garment its distinct presence and value.
Responsibility is considered through every stage of making, with a focus on natural fibres and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified materials. Fabrics are chosen not only for their beauty and character, but for the standards that sit behind them, with close attention paid to quality, traceability, and longevity.
Manufacturing is kept as close to source as possible, allowing the house to work more directly with specialist makers while maintaining a more considered approach to distance, waste, and scale. The same emphasis is placed on care and permanence, so that every Coutille piece is made to be worn often, kept over time, and valued for the precision of its making.
